FUE Hair Transplant & Restoration Philadelphia

Most probably believe hair loss is just a natural part of aging. But if you are one of the 40% of women or 80% of men who experience hair loss at some point in their lives, nothing feels “natural” about losing your hair. Loss of hair is a loss of identity. We lose a part of our “self” when we lose our hair, and this creates anxiety, depression, and isolation that is anything but natural. Thankfully, hair loss is not something we simply have to accept or learn to live with. Those with hair loss may be candidates for effective treatment through hair transplant surgery. We at Feller & Bloxham Medical are leading surgical hair restoration experts in Philadelphia.

The FUT Hair Transplant Method

FUT, or Follicular Unit Transplantation, is the gold standard of hair restoration techniques. This method involves taking a small strip of hair-bearing skin from the donor area of the scalp – the sides and the back — where the hair is thick, abundant, and permanent, dissecting the strip into the individual follicles (follicular units) under high power microscopes, and transplanting the follicles individually in to the bald or thinning problem areas. With little discomfort and fast healing, the procedure provides the best results with minimal scarring.

The FUE Hair Transplant Method

FUE, or Follicular Unit Excision, is another popular method of hair restoration that is used when patients are unsuitable for FUT. During this process, individual follicles are extracted from the donor area “one-by-one,” reviewed under microscopes, and then transplanted into the bald or thinning areas just like in FUT. The process takes longer, typically boasts a lower growth yield, and usually transplants less grafts at a time, but can create very discrete scarring in the donor area which allows for short hair styles.
