There are two methods of hair transplantation available to patients in New Jersey: Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT or “strip” surgery) and Follicular Unit Excision (FUE). FUT is considered the gold-standard technique. It delivers the best results, allows for the largest surgeries and biggest transformations, and provides patients with the option to undergo more procedures up the road if necessary. FUE is best suited for smaller procedures or patients who cannot undergo FUT surgery. Both procedures create minimal amounts of scarring in the “donor” region on the sides and back of the scalp where we harvest the hair. FUT leaves a fine linear line hidden under your hair, whereas FUE leaves small “dot” scars scattered throughout the donor. If done properly, the dot scars from FUE are very discrete and difficult to appreciate. While both methods still allow for short hair styles in the donor region, FUE typically allows patients to “buzz” their hair a little shorter on the sides and back.
